WHO INVENTED THE SATELLITE IN 1957?

In what was once Soviet Union in 1957, the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, was launched. The USA did not delay in sending one of their own shortly after. Thee are hundreds of satellites orbiting the earth for different purposes today: meteorological, military, for the use of the telephone, television, observation, etc...inventions that have changed the course of humanity.
